How do we consciously become aware of and address something that is, by nature, concealed?

“Biases are present for everyone and we need to check ourselves often, so that we can work with and provide the best services for our students.” – Miami-Dade County Public School Social Worker

As human beings, we’re hardwired to filter information through a particular lens rooted in our lived experiences, backgrounds, and messages we have received.  When we can be aware of and accept our unconscious biases, we can manage them, allowing us to fully connect with everyone, in a way that is welcoming of their full selves.

Our team continues to lead local, statewide, and national dialogues on unconscious biases in learning environments. We are grateful to Ridgeline Montessori Public Charter School in Eugene, Oregon and to the Social Workers in Miami-Dade County Public Schools for their commitment to receiving our training and creating inclusive school environments for all.
