Pride Community Mental Health Fair

Join us for an afternoon of resource-sharing and community-building!

Youth and families are contacting our office seeking resources for mental health services. The Trevor Project recently released its 2024 U.S. National Survey on the Mental Health of LGBTQ+ Young People. According to the Trevor Project’s latest findings:

    • 39% of LGBTQ+ young people seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year including almost half of transgender and nonbinary young people (46%) and 3 in 10 cisgender young people (30%).
    • 50% of LGBTQ+ young people who wanted mental health care in the past year were not able to get it.
    • Nearly half (49%) of LGBTQ+ young people ages 13-17 experienced bullying in the past year, and those who did reported significantly higher rates of attempting suicide in the past year than those who did not experience bullying.

YES Institute will host a Pride Community Mental Health Fair for anyone and everyone on Saturday, May 11, 2024, during Mental Health Awareness Month. This is a free event sponsored by The Underline and The Dunspaugh-Dalton Foundation

We invite you to join us and our community partners as we focus on diverse gender and orientation experiences and the specific mental health needs of folks in the pride community. Thank you to our host sponsor, The Underline!

Special thanks to our community partners for providing free resources and information: Alliance for LGBTQ Youth, Care Resource, the City of Miami, Ellie Mental Health of Coral Gables, Transsocial, and the University of Miami Familias con Orgullo.

YES Institute’s mission is to prevent suicide and ensure the healthy development of all youth, through powerful communication and education on gender and orientation. Our vision is a community in which all youth develop as healthy individuals free of suicide, violence, and discrimination.

If you are a parent and need support in resolving bullying incidents your child is experiencing, please reach us at [email protected] or 305-663-7195.
