This week, YES Institute is bringing neurodiversity to the forefront across two meaningful areas of our work.
On Wednesday, August 20, 2026, our team presented an in-person continuing education workshop for Jewish Community Services of South Florida on the intersection of neurodiversity and gender and orientation diversity. The session was designed for licensed therapists seeking practical tools and a deeper understanding for their work with clients navigating both experiences.
One participant shared: “I learned so much about the intersection of neurodivergence and gender diversity. I loved this training; it taught me so much about how to better show up for my clients.”
We are also thrilled to announce that YES Institute has been awarded a microgrant from the University of Miami CHARM Center (Center for HIV and Research in Mental Health) to develop and pilot a culturally responsive learning program on sexual health, mental health, and family communication for LGBTQ+ Autistic youth and their families. In partnership with Dr. Alyssa Lozano at the UM CHARM Center, this project, titled “Healthy Futures for LGBTQ+ Autistic People,” is currently in its first phase, with focus groups underway through August 2026. We are grateful to our participants for the time, trust, and insight they are bringing to this work. The flyer for this study is here.
YES Institute also continues to host the Neurodiversity & Identity Family Empowerment Group, a free ongoing gathering for neurodivergent individuals (including those with Autism, ADHD, and other neurological differences), families, and allies who are also connected to gender and orientation experiences. Each gathering is a place for open conversation, peer connection, and resource-sharing. Our next meeting is Thursday, August 27, 2026.
