As we arrive upon Hispanic Heritage Month, YES Institute is being called upon to provide prevention education and communication workshops for people working within and serving Latino communities, both locally and internationally.
YES Institute was invited to meet with nonprofit leaders from México who traveled to Miami, thanks to Global Ties Miami. Global Ties Miami brings international visitors and South Florida communities together to foster global understanding, cooperation, goodwill, and friendships through citizen diplomacy and international exchange. Mexican community leaders shared about their work on gender-based violence prevention, mental health, and police academy awareness training for Mexicans who identify as gay or transgender, as well as parenting support for families with transgender children. In South Florida, we are working together to address common challenges such as healthcare inclusion and prevention education solutions that can contribute to efforts locally and abroad.
One of our new organizational partners is The Promise Fund of West Palm Beach, whose mission is to increase survivorship from breast and cervical cancer by providing guided support and access to screenings, as well as early detection and treatment. Promise Fund primarily serves Hispanic and Haitian women, who face unique health disparities, including lower rates of cancer screening and higher barriers to care. Mothers receiving a cancer diagnosis can impact their entire family, and their own ability to care for themselves, their children and loved ones.
YES Institute provided a customized professional development session for Promise Fund Care Navigators, “Powerful Communication for Well-Being” utilizing distinctions from our Communication Solutions™ and Leadership in Action courses for these heroines working in high-stress environments. One participant shared, “The course helped me to redirect my focus and truly analyze the time I am dedicating to my own well-being.” Funding for this session was made possible by The Community Foundation of Palm Beach & Martin Counties and the Florida Blue Sapphire Award.
