How do we create inviting medical environments where patients are seen and heard?
First and second year medical students attending South Florida universities are examining this question and taking action.
Medical personnel in South Florida receive the least amount of training on gender and orientation compared to other helping professionals. The University of Miami ensured over 100 of their medical students were well equipped to affirm the experience of their patients, and relate to them in a way that doesn’t escalate harm or stigma.
Gender and orientation affirming care doesn’t require someone to personally agree with a person’s identity or orientation. It simply allows all those in the medical field to treat others with understanding.
Our team is currently offering trainings in West Palm Beach County, FL thanks to a local grant.
