Something meaningful is underway. Together with long-time partner Dr. Carol Clark, Ph.D., LMHC, the YES Institute education team is co-teaching a 60-hour Advanced Gender Therapy Certification Program, and the first five days of class have been extraordinary!

Dr. Clark’s Therapy Certification Training Center provides a variety of professional development opportunities where learners can earn credit towards a PhD program or receive continuing education (CE) hours applicable to various boards and helpful for professional practice development goals.

In the Advanced Gender Therapy Certification Program, participants have reviewed recent historical developments, ethical and legal updates, language and terminology, trauma-informed care, the psychological effects of social stigmas, all within the context of gender identity development throughout the lifespan. The sessions also included guest lectures by psychiatrists, nurses, and medical providers on the medical aspects of gender appropriate care, so that informed care coordination between mental health and physicians can benefit clients holistically.

Importantly, these interactive lectures encompassed all gender experiences, including men’s and women’s concerns in mental health — grounding the work in a full and inclusive understanding of gender, with updated peer-reviewed findings for how these topics are showing up for clients and their families. The remaining five days resume in mid-April, where the learning goes even deeper.

We are honored to regularly provide educational dialogues for therapists and mental health students on best practices in providing care for clients impacted by gender and orientation experiences.
