How can the hospitality industry ensure inclusive practices internally as well as externally?
YES Institute is often invited to lead training for companies seeking best practices to create a welcoming environment for their customers. Over the past couple of years, our team has been requested to lead diversity, equity, inclusivity, and accessibility training for staff with the purpose of strengthening internal workplace culture, deepening employee relationships, and increasing customer satisfaction.

The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau recently requested one of our corporate trainings in Spanish, for the staff of a local hotel. Participants were vulnerable in sharing about their experiences with gender and orientation particularly around personal matters such as family and religion. One of the staff shared that this was not something that they openly discussed among colleagues, nor did they talk about it at home or within the Hispanic community. The conversation also lent itself to create awareness for those in the pride community who are traveling, the barriers faced, and the practices that create welcoming experiences.

Vizcaya Museum & Gardens invited our education team to lead our Communication Toolbox to their staff. The course provided staff an opportunity to be with one another while learning the same communication model. Participants asked for guidance when they were curious about how to approach their colleagues’ gender and orientation without crossing boundaries and while maintaining respect. One of the staff opened up about their own experience of gender in the professional context and felt safe in sharing their pronouns with the group.
