The sudden, recent passing of 17-year-old Hope Verbeeck of Key Biscayne has further strengthened the resolve of the YES Institute team to continue expanding the reach of our work. Hope lived life to the fullest, yet faced challenges as she pursued living authentically in the world as female. Upon her passing, she requested to be remembered as a “transgender, pansexual teenage girl named Hope.”
This tragedy shines a light on the life and death stakes when youth cannot envision a future where they are seen and known authentically, and have a place to truly belong.
Our hearts and deepest condolences go out to Hope’s family and friends. Hope’s family has asked the community to consider donating to organizations special to Hope. YES Institute was named among them.
We invite you to honor Hope, and support us in keeping all the magnificent youth in our community safe.
