Metal detectors. Zero tolerance. Anti-bullying policies. Hall monitors. Cameras. School police. Empathy training… So many attempts, yet there has been no significant change in the national bullying rate over the last 5 years. What could be missing?
Forty Miami-Dade County teachers engaged in this inquiry at our innovative A Communication Called “Bullying” course. Participants gained a new view that dismantles the typical “bully/victim” framework, and discovered new actions for keeping their school communities safer:
“Changed the whole way I think about bullying. I’m excited to make some changes in how I speak to students and parents.”
“Empowers me to be a better teacher, and to help my students with real world situations.”
“Simply punishing students is not enough. Assigning blame is really about me, not them.”
“Students cannot be simply labeled as ‘bully’ or ‘victim.’ Both things can be true for the same person.”
We thank all of the teachers in our community for their extraordinary commitment to creating a new future for our youth! Click below to register for our next course, or call Visnia at 305-663-7195.
