What skills and expertise do you bring to the team as an intern?
I love to volunteer for organizations I care about, and I am willing to help in any way I can. I enjoy learning, and I know that the staff at YES Institute will take me under their wing and expand my knowledge on gender and orientation.
What has YES Institute done that you’re particularly proud of, that had you apply to be an intern?
I was close friends with Hope Verbeeck, a trans woman who took her life in March 2018. Her passing inspired me to volunteer with YES.
Suicide prevention is of paramount importance in our community. I admire YES Institute’s work toward promoting awareness and providing education in the community, and I hope to contribute to their efforts.
What learning experience thus far, has had the biggest impact on who you are now?
This past year, I joined my school’s Gay Straight Alliance, debate club, and newspaper. I think that being more involved in my school’s community has made me realize that I can make a difference in my community. I consider myself an agent of change and I hope to inspire others to act.
