Angel Turner

Intern, University of Miami, Undergraduate in Public Health - Pre-Medical Student

What skills and expertise do you bring to the team?

Throughout my time as a pre-medical student and public health major, I’ve learned the importance time management and doing work efficiently. I believe I will be able to assist with completing tasks in a timely manner and contribute my organizational skills to YES Institute.

tWhat has YES Institute done that you’re particularly proud of?

When I was younger, I was never educated on gender and orientation in an academic setting. I did not discuss these topics in school until college. I believe Yes Institute is making changes and creating a safe place for generations to come by educating elementary, middle, and high school students on gender and orientation.

What learning experience had the biggest impact on who you are now?

I’m originally from Houston, Texas and I am currently a senior at The University of Miami. The move from Houston to Miami allowed me to grow in so many ways. It was the first time in my life I was away from my family for an extended period of time. Although it was very scary, it allowed me to mature in a variety of ways because I immersed myself in a new culture, and truly embraced it with open arms.

Before today I only saw two solutions to arguments: either we agree, or I ‘prove my point.’ Now I can open space for real conversations and relationships.
