Albert Henriquez

Intern, Florida International University, Undergraduate, Psychology

What skills and expertise do you bring to the team?
I would say my special skill would be creating a comfortable, safe space for people to be themselves and express who they are and how they feel.

What do you find most rewarding about your internship?
The most rewarding part of the work I’m putting in to this organization is the impact it’s making on the community around us. Every dialogue and course induces change and works towards our mission to prevent youth suicide.
What has YES Institute done that you are particularly proud of?
The thing I am most proud of is the unconditional positive regard this organization has to offer. All are welcome at YES Institute, and that is a truly amazing notion.
What learning experience had the biggest impact on who you are now?
I think going away to college was one of the most impactful stages of my development because it gave me the opportunity to grow into who I am today, take on some responsibility, develop a sense of structure, and solidify what I want to do with my life.

Before today I felt only confusion or frustration towards gay and transgender people. Now I feel compassion.
