YES Institute has a long-term partnership with Ethical Culture Fieldston School in New York, an excellent private school serving over 1,600 students on 2 campuses. YES initially trained parents, teachers, and administrators at Fieldston’s Riverdale campus in our signature Communication Solutions™ course. That course opened new lines of communication among school members who had been divided by differing opinions. Fieldston is founded on principles of equity and inclusion, and members of the school community consistently identify different pathways for achieving their shared vision of a democratic, pluralistic, and progressive school.

YES’ educational partnership with Fieldston has evolved and expanded over the years. We have returned several times to deliver our educational courses on gender and communication to students, parents, and faculty at both the Riverdale and Manhattan campuses, with additional trips scheduled for the coming months. Coalitions of Fieldston members have also traveled to Miami to participate in our curriculum.
When our partnership first began, teachers and parents did not think gender and orientation impacted their students. Now they recognize gender as key to unraveling all the stereotypes and misconceptions that keep people divided.
A parent commented, “We have all been shoved into one box--M or F--all of our lives. The same thing is happening now with our students. YES opened more possibilities than I imagined for starting conversations on these topics that will really make a difference. Getting rid of labels will move us toward the unity we strive to achieve in this school--not just regarding gender, but all the categories we use to measure ‘diversity.’”
Fieldston members are committed to establishing their school as a model for educational excellence. YES Institute is honored to be their partner in realizing that vision. Read more about our work with Ethical Culture Fieldston School in these newsletter articles:
