This past month, YES Institute said a bittersweet farewell to Umut Dursun, our YES Institute Gender Education Specialist. He is moving back to Austin to be closer to family.
“Working at YES Institute these past several years has given me the gift of a lifetime,” Umut shared. “I have relationships with my family that I never dreamed possible, and I know who I am authentically for the first time ever.”
In his last week at YES Institute, Umut (Veteran, US Marines) received several national and local media requests amidst the uproar over the national headline on transgender service members.
“Education is the key to unraveling ‘us vs. them’ conversations so ALL people have the freedom to live authentically,” Umut shared with media. Read the New York Times story and other national and local media coverage here.
We thank Umut for all he has given us over the years! He has made a tremendous impact at YES Institute and for countless youth and families in the community, and he will continue doing so as a consultant.
“I will continue to be connected to YES Institute, and remain available to serve in any capacity possible,” said Umut.
